When you’re getting ready for a night in a club the main intention should be to make yourself look sexy and eye catching. This isn’t a cocktail party or a wedding so you don’t need to worry too much about looking elegant – you’re instead aiming to look glitzy and sexy.

However at the same time this is something of a balancing act for two reasons – one because you want to make sure that you don’t look like a slut as this is just not a good look and it will bring the wrong type of attention, and two because you need to make sure that what you’re wearing is practical and appropriate for staying on your feet and dancing for hours at a time.

Sexy Not Slutty

So how do you look sexy and draw attention to your assets without looking too trampy? Well the best technique to use is to decide on which feature you want to show off – and you can pick your legs, your bum or your cleavage. Showing off any one of these features is fine, but you don’t want to show more than one or you’ll then start to look desperate and you’ll lessen the impact of each body part.

If you want to show your cleavage then you can do this with a low cut top, and if you want to show your legs then you can of course achieve that using a short skirt. Likewise to show of your bum and your general figure then using a tight form-fitting dress is also a great technique.

However even if you do just show one feature you can still look slutty if you take it too far. For instance don’t wear leggings without having some kind of skirt (as some girls do) and don’t wear skirts that are too short if there’s any chance that you would show your pants (not cool!).

Casual vs Glamorous

At the same time another balancing act is knowing how dressed up to go. Of course you want to look your best and you want to look glamorous, but at the same time you also want to avoid looking like you’ve gone to too much effort when everyone else is dressed casually. This will partly depend on the venue you are heading to and also what the other people in your group will be wearing. Confer with them, and look at pictures of what people normally wear in that club, and then use this to decide what you want to wear for the event.

In general if you are going on a night out then you will want to look dressed up while not too over the top. The best options then are either to wear tight jeans or a skirt with a nice top such as a boob tube, or to wear a relatively casual dress. It can be glitzy and tight, but not something you’d consider wearing to prom.

From here it’s things like your jewellery, your bag, and your shoes that will make you look the part. If you can wear heels then this is always a great way to give you a more confident and sexy posture as well as to show off your style again.

Hair and Makeup

For your hair and makeup, mostly the same rules apply as choosing your clothes. Firstly you want to draw attention to one set of features – so your eyes for instance or your lips using either a dark eye-shadow/eye liner or a bold lipstick. Avoid using both or you will look too made up and again this can look cheap while diminishing the impact one heavily made up area would have had. A matte red lipstick is a very fashionable look and one that will tend to turn heads and look good in night club lighting.

As for your hair the single rule is to do something with it in order to make your look that bit extra special for the occasion. Curling your hair is a popular option, as is wearing it up, but perhaps the easiest and most guaranteed to be a hit is to just straighten it.

Practical

Now how do you make this outfit practical for your night out? What you need to think about here is how warm you’re going to be if you’re walking between clubs in the cold, and at the same time how much your feet are likely to hurt after 10 hours of dancing in heels.

There are several solutions. For the coldness problem all you need to do is to make sure you’re wearing tights (transparent tights are fine if you still want to show off your legs) and to make sure that you have some layers with you such as a pashmina. To combat the heels problem there are two easy options – one being to wear ‘wedges’ which are shoes that lift you up all across the bottom as opposed to just on the heel. The other solution is to carry foldaway shoes – you should be able to find these on eBay and they’re designed to be light enough and flexible enough to fold up and keep in your bag on a night out.
